dream dream dream.

I have plans that I haven't really mentioned much because they're maybe a bit silly. but I've been thinking about this a lot for the past year or so, and lately it's all I've been thinking about. I can't really sleep at night because I stay up wondering whether or not this will happen and how wonderful it will be if it does. It's no secret that I hate Florida, especially the weather and the lack of seasons, so it seems kind of silly to stay here, so a few months ago I declared this to be the last Summer I will ever spend in this state. I hope to move North, somewhere where the leaves change and snow falls and Summers are warm and lovely but not unbearable. I want to live in a big old farmhouse with hardwood floors, high ceilings and big windows with lots of light, a rickety front porch (maybe with a swing if I'm really being picky?). Where I can live and have lots of room for all of my old dresses to live until they're sent off to new homes. In a small town with strips of old brick buildings and rows of dusty little antique shops, little wooden general stores, maybe even an old movie theatre. maybe this doesn't exist? but if it does, I'll hopefully find it.

I've been researching places that might fit what I have in mind, maybe Georgia, although I'm not sure it's far enough north to escape the dreadfully hot Summers, maybe North Carolina or Pennsylvania, somewhere pretty like York. or maybe back to Maryland  where I grew up, and where my family lives, where my best friends are currently located while attending school. I really hope this works out, because I don't ask for much and it's all I want.

  1. I think you should go for it!! I'm afriad to tell you that Georgia is still just as hot. Unbearably so. I dream of one day not spending summers here.

i figured it would be pretty hot still, but at least it snows in some parts of Ga, right? but you're right, probably not far north enough for me! thank you for the encouragement! c:

  3. I don't think it's silly at all! It sounds like a lovely plan to me. The older I get, the less appealing city life is to me on some days. It's so expensive here and everywhere is crowded and rent is so expensive. I love that I live in a city with so much culture and art, but I also look forward to moving to a smaller town some day where we could afford a house and I could have a studio! And I miss sitting on porches too:)

i'm glad it doesn't sounds silly! i just feel like, most people make plans to get OUT of their small towns and move to big cities and have exciting lives and my ultimate goal is to find a cute and simple small town and live in a big quiet farmhouse, haha. might seem a bit backwards to some.

and sitting on porches is something i look forward to and could never enjoy here in fl because it's so hot/humid/mosquito-y!

  5. A lovely dream!! Go for it, especially since your family is there if you choose Maryland. I hear PA is beautiful, my husband had been there. The world is your oyster! Why do they say that anyway, lol? I hate snow, there I said it please don't throw rocks at me people, LOL! I do, I hate being cold, being hot and sweaty is a real bummer, but being freezing cold is worse because it hurts and harder for me to deal with. Hard to think when you can't feel all your body parts. No way I could deal with digging my way out of my drive way either. ;)

haha i think we are opposites! i would much rather be cold than hot, when i get too hot i get super crazy and cranky and stressed out. it's the worst. i grew up having snow and blizzards every winter and i loved it, i'm sure it gets old if the snow lasts too long but most of the places i'm considering have nice normal-length winters, not too-long ones! c:

  7. yes, yes, i say do it! you should google westfield, ny. sounds sorta like what you described. it is very quaint, has a cute main street, farmers market, etc. rural enough to have plenty of old farm houses, but just about the midway point between buffalo and erie, pa, if you need some city life(granted those arent huge cities, but still). definitely rocks all four seasons.

haha i sound like a tourism board(i live about 20 mins away). it is a seriously cute town close to lots of wineries! just a pretty place.

wow, that sounds and looks perfect! you pretty much described my exact criteria, small and quiet but not so rural that my nearest neighbors are five miles away, and close enough to md/pa (where i have family) to visit. thanks for the suggestion! i will definitely be stalking westfield's craigslist.

  10. your dream and mine are quite similar, dear. what i wouldn't give to wake up in a world such as that! north carolina is enchanting, though--lots of small towns big enough to lose yourself in:)
